Combine cider, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, lemon juice and butter in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
Add the peeled pears and simmer for 15-20 minutes until tender, turning the pears every few minutes.
Remove the pears from the syrup and allow to cool.
Continue to simmer the syrup for 15 to 20 minutes or until slightly thickened or reduced by half.
Serve warm syrup over pears.
Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Make the syrup alone and serve over pancakes or waffles.
